This lip smacking Thalori Chemmeen Curry or ridge gourd prawn curry is one of the best side dishes to have with rice. It goes well with roti too. Prawns cooked with ridge gourd gives this curry a special flavor and aroma. The ground coconut mix makes it more tasty and interesting.

There are some dishes that we do not make very often at home. This thalori chemmeen curry is one such curry. Usually when I get prawns, i fry them. You can find the spicy fried prawns recipe here. And we buy ridge gourd very rarely and usually stir fry them. But this curry which is a fantastic combination of prawns and ridge gourd is a must try. It is very flavorful and tasty. And you can serve it along with a bowl of steamed rice.

Now have a look at how to prepare this coconut curry. First wash and clean the prawns and devein them. Now cook the ridge gourd with 1/4 tsp turmeric powder and little salt in about 1 and 1/2 cups of water. Once they are partially cooked, add in the cleaned prawns and cook them both together, until fully cooked.

Mean while grind together the grated coconut, garlic and 1/4 tsp turmeric powder into a smooth paste. Now add this coconut paste to the cooked ridge gourd and prawns. Then add the chopped tomatoes and green chilies. Next add the red chili powder and check salt level, and add more if required. Now adjust the consistency by adding more water, if the curry is too thick. And allow to boil for 4-5 minutes. Finally switch the flame off.

Next, in another pan, heat the coconut oil or any vegetable oil. And splutter mustard seeds. Then add curry leaves and red chili whole. Switch the flame off. Add this to the prepared curry. Delicious thalori chemmen curry is ready. Serve hot with steamed rice or roti. It is a tasty, flavorful and soothing curry.

Instructions
