Hello All, so here is a very simple recipe to make crispy chocolate biscuits. In fact, these are chocolate ghee biscuits (Ghee is clarified Butter). I’m not very sure about the adverse effects of using baking soda or baking powder in baking. But have read that, if used excessively it might cause undesirable results. So these biscuits are made without using baking soda or baking powder. And what more? No all purpose flour/ maida too. So this is another guilt-free bake that you can snack upon.
These crunchy chocolate biscuits are perfect to be had for kids as they are healthy in many ways. They are made primarily of multi grain flour. I have used multi grain atta (flour) from Conscious Foods. It is an amazing product with a blend of 7 vital grains – Wholewheat, Brown Rice, Finger Millet, Pearl Millet, Sorghum, Barley, Soyabean. So this is an all-in-one, power packed snack for kids. Kids just love to have cookies, and when they are chocolate flavored, they don’t need anything more. So without you running behind them to make them eat healthy stuff, you can easily make them run behind these nutritious bake.
First whisk in the egg and sugar until they are well blended. Then add in the vanilla extract and ghee and mix well. Then slowly add the multi grain flour and cocoa powder. With clean fingers, mix them all well to form a soft dough. If you feel that the dough is too sticky, add little extra flour, and mix well. Next you have to refrigerate the dough for about 30-45 minutes. If you are too impatient, like me, or are in a hurry, you can freeze it for about 10 minutes.
Then take it out and roll it into a thin sheet. Cutting the cookies into lovely shapes make them even more interesting to the little eyes. So cut your cookies with cute little cookie cutters or shape them into circles or squares. You may include nuts, make jam fillings or simply prick few patterns with fork. Then bake them for about 12-14 minutes in 180 degree centigrade.And there you have your tasty and crispy chocolate ghee biscuits!!
