Meen Pathiri or Fish Dumplings – How to make meen pathiri
For the filling (stuffing)
For marinating the fish pieces
For the covering:
Frying the Fish pieces:
  1. First clean and wash the fish pieces. I have used Seer fish or King fish. You may use any fleshy fish.
  2. Marinate the fish using red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Let it rest for about an hour.
  3. Next heat little oil in a pan and shallow fry the fish pieces, until both the sides are cooked.
  4. Remove from the pan and once they cool down a bit, remove the bones, and cut them into smaller pieces. Keep them aside.
Preparing the filling:
  1. Heat oil in a pan.
  2. Add onions and saute till they turn light pink.
  3. Add ginger garlic paste and green chili and saute till the raw smell goes off.
  4. Now add turmeric and red chili powder and mix.
  5. Next you can add the shredded fish pieces.
  6. Finally add the coriander leaves and set aside.
Preparing the covering:
  1. Take water in a pan with oil and salt and let it boil.
  2. Once water boils, drizzle the rice flour over it. Turn off the flame.
  3. Let it sit with the lid on for 5 minutes.
  4. Then remove the lid and mix thoroughly.
  5. Now mix onion, fennel seeds and coconut in a grinder until it forms a coarse paste.
  6. Add this mixture to the flour and mix well.
Final Steaming
  1. Now take a small ball of the dough and roll it to a cookie size with hands. Make another one too.
  2. Place 2-3 tsp of filling inside and cover with the other sheet of dough.
  3. Press the sides so as to close the edges.
  4. Prepare all the dumplings like this and steam it for 20-25 minutes, until fully cooked.
  5. Serve hot.
