Dahi Bhalla – How to make Dahi Bhalla (Product Review of Farmz2Familiez Medu Vada Batter)

Dahi Bhalla is one of my favorites. Dahi bhalla is similar to dahi vadas, as popularly known in South India. I fell in love with this dish when my Aunt prepared it once and packed some to take home. Since then I have planned to make it some day, but the day never arrived. It was then, that Plattershare came up with ‘The Healthy Wholesome Breakfast Meal Campaign’, in association with Farm2Familiez (F2F). Plattershare is a social media platform for food lovers, food professionals and food businesses where you can share your food interests like recipes, food blogs, food pictures, network with each other and promote your food businesses. I was so excited to be a part of this healthy campaign run by Farm2Familiez (F2F). F2F is a home business or more specifically a mission towards healthy eating, and is run by a group of 3 women working hard with a focus to make available the best, healthy and fresh mixes available in easy ready to use form .

So when I received the freshly ground Medu vada batter from F2F, i thought of using half of the batter for making dahi bhallas.

I was really happy with the outcome, and feel satisfied to have made some delicious dahi bhallas. And if you have ready made batter like this, the job is half done. The Farmz2Familiez Medu Vada Batter that I received came in neatly packed, with all the necessary information regarding the method of preparation (for medu vada), ingredients, nutritional facts and other relevant product details printed on the pack.

From the texture of the batter itself, I made out that the vadas are going to be soft and fluffy. I felt it was perfectly fermented with the right proportion of urad dal and water. While frying, the vadas puffed up and became fluffy. Just after frying they had a crispy crust. But then as the recipe for dahi bhallas requires the vadas to be soaked in lukewarm water, after soaking they turned soft and spongy.

And then I soaked the vadas in creamy and spiced curd. The cold curd makes it soothing and refreshing. While serving, serve green mint chutney and sweet tamarind chutney on top. And finally sprinkle some chopped coriander leaves, red chili powder and chaat masala. Luscious and melt in the mouth dahi bhallas are ready in no time.

I would recommend this product to all those who are in short of time, struggling between work and home. This is especially intended for those who rush to office and find it difficult to prepare healthy meals for breakfast/evening snack. Breakfast, as you all know, is the most important meal of the day. It fuels your body to function properly throughout the day and provides the required energy. So breakfast should not be compromised. If you are running out of time, and looking out for quick and easy, as well as healthy breakfast, then Farmz2Familiez breakfast products are for you.

I have also prepared some tasty medu vadas with the second half of the batter. They too came out delicious. They had a crispy golden brown crust and a fluffy inside. And for medu vadas, you just have to chop some onions and green chilies. And then mix it with the batter along with salt, curry leaves, grated ginger, black pepper balls etc. That’s it. And then fry them in hot oil. And there you have a plate of hot, crispy and tasty medu vadas!! So easy, isn’t it?
