I have baked these churros as part of the BellyNirvana campaign organised by Plattershare in association with Place of Origin. Few selected bloggers and home cooks were given a couple of healthy ingredients with which they had to make a healthy snack. I was so lucky to be chosen among few others. And I received Organic Farmer’s Co. Quinoa Flakes and Natirel Raw Banana Flour as the ingredients using which we had to create healthy snacks. Baked Raw Banana Flour Churros

This is my first time using raw banana flour in my bake. And my first time trying a churros too. I planned the snack assuming I had a big star shaped nozzle at home. But I couldn’t find it anywhere. (Have to dig into my little one’s huge toy box now to find it, which will take at least a day..!!) So my murukku maker (idiyappam maker) came to my rescue. It had an almost star shape holed mould. So if you have a big star shaped nozzle for your piping bag, use it, just like for any other churrros. Else you may use murukku maker just as I did!! 😉

Now let us see how exactly to bake these churros. In a bowl, mix together the Natirel raw banana flour, wholewheat flour, baking powder, cane sugar and salt. Keep this aside. Now melt butter in a pan. When it starts to bubble, simmer and add the mixed dry flour mixture. Mix it well. Then add one egg and mix well until fully incorporated in the dough. Next add the second egg and again mix thoroughly until well incorporated. Then switch the flame off. And allow to cool a bit.

Then transfer to bowl and knead by adding oil and little water (if the dough is too thick). Next transfer the dough to a piping bag with start nozzle, or to a murukku maker. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and grease it. Now squeeze out about 4-5 inches of the dough through the piping bag to the prepared baking tray. Preheat the oven to 200 degree Celsius. Bake the churros for 15 minutes. Serve warm. These Baked Raw Banana Flour Churros are great if paired with a spicy, homemade red chili tomato sauce. After baking you may sprinkle some red chili powder for making them a bit spicy. Or add little paprika (or red chili powder)to make these churros a bit spicy. However I relished them with fresh homemade chili tomato sauce.

For the chili tomato sauce, heat 2 cups water in a saucepan. Then add the tomato, red chilies, salt and garlic pods. Let it boil for 15 minutes. Allow to cool down. Then drain excess water and grind to form a rich saucy consistency. (May add 1-2 tbsp of the stock if required). Munch on the healthy baked raw banana flour churros with this delicious red chili tomato sauce.
