How about some baked chocolate waffles?? Wait… Waffles and baked…??!!! Well, yes. I so very badly wanted to try my hands on waffles. But then wanted a waffle maker that’s not too heavy on the pockets. So I got this silicon waffle mould from an online store (link provided below), and tried my hands on baking some chocolate waffles. The first attempt was not so good. I tried again after few days, and this time, I think I’ve nailed it!!

Chocolate waffles

And these baked chocolate waffles are made healthier using healthier flour, that is, wholewheat flour, and not all purpose flour. It was chocolaty, and nothing could go wrong with chocolate. A generous amount of honey drizzled on top and sliced bananas make these baked chocolate waffles truly delicious and filling. Taken fresh out of the oven, these waffles have a crusty outside and soft and fluffy inside. And the small cute squares made by the mould were just perfect! I totally loved them.

Making these waffles is quite simple and easy. You just have to cream the egg first. Then mix together all the other ingredients. Give a good mix and get the consistency right. Prepare the waffle mould. Be sure to place the waffle mould on a baking tray before you pour the batter for the ease of handling. By doing so, you could easily place the mould inside the oven. Otherwise, the batter may spill. Now pour the batter. Using a ladle would be a better choice for doing this. Then using the back of the ladle, spread the batter evenly to all the sides and corners. Give a tap on the counter and there you go.

Get the oven ready. Initially you have to pre-heat the oven to 200 degree centigrade and then bring the temperature down to 180 degree Centigrade. Bake the waffles for 28-30 minutes in 180 degree centigrade. Mine were ready by 28 minutes. You could easily make it out by checking the upper crust, and the sides. The edges would have come off the sides of the mould. So then you have to flip the ย waffles on to a prepared baking tray. That is, on to a baking tray lined with parchment paper. And now the waffles will have the squares on top. Now pre-heat the oven to 200 degree centigrade and then bake for another 5-8 minutes. Allow to cool.

Then you can serve these yummy chocolate waffles with honey and sliced fruits, or even chocolate syrup. I used honey, and fresh, ripe bananas and it was really tasty. As i had planned to serve the waffles along with honey, I have used very little sugar. But if you want the waffles to be sweet without honey, please add more sugar, may be 1/4 to 1/2 cup, as per your taste.

You could also sprinkle a mix of seeds like pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, muskmelon seeds and watermelon seeds. This makes these baked chocolate waffles even more healthy and nutritious.

Chocolate waffles

You may try this for breakfast or as a snack. Kids would enjoy having them. Serve them when they are still warm.

  3. I had fallen for this pic while I saw it on IG… what color of the waffles! I do have a waffle attachment for my sandwich maker but hardly make use of it, since I have no fans for waffles nor pancakes at home and I feel lazy to make it for myself… Bookmarking this so that I can have a treat for myself! And loving that chai in the background… ๐Ÿ˜€
